What is Fire Alarm Cabling?
Fire alarm cabling links the control panel with detectors, notification appliances, modules, and other devices that make up the fire alarm system.

Purpose
When a detector, pull station, or other field device changes state, the cabling carries that information back to the control unit. Other circuits carry commands or power out to notification appliances and connected building functions. The design of those runs has to account for more than device count. Conductor size, distance, voltage, routing, and the electrical characteristics of the circuit can all influence how the system performs.
Examples of Use
- Initiating Devices: Wiring between the control system and smoke detectors, heat detectors, pull stations, and other inputs.
- Notification Appliances: Circuits serving horns, strobes, speakers, and related alerting devices.
- Signaling Line Circuits: Cabling used to communicate with addressable detectors, modules, and other connected devices.
- Building Interfaces: Connections used for functions such as elevator recall, door release, or fan shutdown when included in the fire alarm design.
